Where is the first place you go when you want to find something online?
If your answer wasn’t Google, you’re probably living under a rock.
But seriously, Google is the go-to spot for all internet related needs. But have you ever thought about how Google decides which results show up when you search for something? For example, when you go to type in “hair salon near me” and the nearest hair salon shows up, what part of the algorithm worked out that this specific location listing matches your needs best? It isn’t magic… but it also isn’t rocket science. It’s keywords.
Google favors businesses with reputable keywords that will link it to related searches. For example, the more often that Google sees *Made Up Hair Salon Name* associated with words like haircut, salon, hair salon, and hair, the more likely *Made Up Hair Salon Name* will show up at the top of the search results when somebody searches for a “hair salon near me”.
Awesome. Cool. Great. Google wants key search terms associated with my business.
But uh… how do I do that?
I’ve got good news for you. Getting keywords associated with your business is incredibly simple, despite how important it is to your local SEO performance. Here are a few of our top tips to getting keywords associated with your business:
- Find what keywords are being used. Ask your customers how they’re finding you. Search related terms in trends.google.com to see what words are actually being searched regularly.
- Use those keywords as often as possible. In the captions for your social media posts, in your blogs, in reviews, business descriptions, anywhere that you can get the words in a virtual location that has an association with your business.
